Tar City

Tar City is a dark romance with paranormal elements set in a cursed city.

"Say one more thing like that," he growls pulling my hair slightly, "and I'll bend you over the damn bike. Don't care who's watching."

  • “Ballerina, ballerina… No need to scream. When the lights go out and this city gets hungry, remember I’m the one who eats in the dark.”

A dark romance with paranormal elements, for readers drawn to the viral stories taking over BookTok.

Tar City chews people up and spits them out, sometimes… it swallows them whole. Some say the city is cursed, some say it's just corrupt, but Jax St. Clair knows the truth.

Bartender. Biker. The man everyone warns you about. The only one who can control the thing beneath the streets—until it decides to control him instead. Because the tar doesn't just run under Tar City, it runs through him too, and on full moons, it demands.

Sisk was never supposed to come back to him or to this city, but you don't escape Tar City once it's made a deal with you.

Now the tar is rising, Jax is losing control, and Sisk is the one thing he won't risk hurting.

"It's easy to criticize choices you never had to make, but I know exactly how far I'll go for her. And this city? It's counting on it."

  • "I hope - HOPE, BEG and PLEAD - this is a prequel to a new book (series), because now it's just a tease of what could be. The premise is good, the writing is great and the narration is chef's kiss. I am not a big fan of single narration, but Jason Clarke's female impression is top-notch!"

    Goodreads

  • "Please turn this into a full book. Please expand. I liked the touch of magic. I loved the vibe of possible dystopia. More please. The narrator is listed as Jason Clarke. Please do a full book…with Jason Clarke."

    Goodreads

  • "This better be the introduction to a new series or I will be well annoyed. I need more to Sisk and Jax’s story. This little snippet was so good!! I have so many questions I’m antsy for more! Jason Clarke narrating is always a bonus in my “audiobook”"

Content Warnings

So, Blair wants me to hold your hand and give you a nice little list of all the terrible things in this book so you can decide whether you're brave enough to keep reading. Cute.

She also insists I tell you that your mental health is important and that this list contains spoilers.

Apparently that's the responsible thing to do.

Let's get one thing straight: this isn't a warning, it's a filter. Tar City doesn't want tourists, and neither do I.

If you're looking for a fairy tale, you've already taken a wrong fucking turn.

Here's what you're in for:

• A cursed city with serious boundary issues and something very wrong living beneath it.

• Violence. I'm talking murder, disappearances, and things nobody in this city seems particularly interested in solving because they're too busy cleaning up their own messes.

• Explicit sex. The no-fade-to-black kind where you get all the filthy details. You'll see power dynamics that aren't just for show, kinks that leave marks, possessive behavior that borders on obsession, choking, spitting, genital piercings, and more. Includes scenes some readers may interpret as dubious consent or non-consensual sexual content.

• People making very bad decisions, including but not limited to alcohol, smoking, drugs... basically every poison they can find to numb the screaming.

• Bruises. Some accidental. Some very much not.

• Strong language. A lot of it. If the word "fuck" offends you, this is probably where we part ways.

• Self-destructive tendencies, references to self-harm and suicidal thoughts, and a brief reference to pregnancy termination by a non-main character. No on-page descriptions. No miscarriage.

• And finally: full moon bullshit, family trauma, and a guy who doesn't always stay in control. Yeah, that's me. Honestly, I'm the warning.

Blair thinks this list will scare you off. I think it'll do the opposite. I think you're still here because you're the kind of person who doesn't just want to watch the monster, you want to get close enough to feel his breath on your neck. You crave the kind of obsession that would burn the world down just to keep you warm.

Welcome to my city. Watch your step.
